About Us
Millom Heritage and Arts Centre (originally known as Millom Discovery Centre) was established in 1973, and is a registered charity, organised and run by a dedicated team of trustees, staff and volunteers.
The charity’s aims and objectives are to provide a unique educational experience through focusing on Millom’s fascinating history and heritage, as well as highlighting the community impact of historic events. .
As an interactive museum, Millom Heritage and Arts Centre recounts Millom’s story through the ages. The trustees, staff and volunteers constantly work with other groups within our community, continually expanding and diversifying our learning experience through community participation and visual arts. Trustees, staff and volunteers are keenly aware of the needs of disadvantaged children, and are developing a range of activities and events to promote the learning experience.
2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of Centre, and we hope to offer a year of fun packed and educational projects to celebrate the achievements of the museum, the town and the heritage that still lives on today. .
We are particularly proud to showcase the work of local poet and storyteller Norman Nicholson alongside other famous poets and artists who have earned their place in history. So too have the brave pilots and service people of RAF Millom whose sacrifices and efforts will never be forgotten.
Our knowledgeable staff and volunteers can provide information on where to stay, what to do and what’s on in the area.
A range of souvenirs, jewellery, toys, together with local produce and craftwork can be purchased from the Ticket Office Gift Shop.
Millom Heritage and Arts Centre offers a range of tourist information leaflets together with a selection of O.S. maps of Cumbria. Local walks and local trail leaflets are readily available.
